Installing Fold on your phone

Fold can live on your Home Screen with its own icon, opening without Safari's address bar or tab strip.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Fold in Safari (this doesn't work from Chrome or Firefox on iOS — only Safari can install to the Home Screen).
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add.

Fold now appears as an app. It runs full screen and shows up in the app switcher on its own.

You'll need to sign in again

The installed app has its own separate storage, so signing in inside Safari doesn't sign you in inside the installed app. Sign in once more the first time you open it from the Home Screen — after that it stays signed in as long as you use it at least once a week.

What it can and can't do

It works offline exactly as the browser version does: changes you make with no signal are queued and sync when you're back (offline).

It can't send you notifications or sync in the background — iOS doesn't allow either for an installed web app. Fold syncs while it's open, so you'll see other devices' changes when you look at it, not before.

Android and desktop

Not yet. Fold won't offer to install on Android or desktop, but it works normally in any browser there — open it as a bookmark and everything behaves the same.

Fold is open source.
